We started Deep Cut for a simple reason: We were looking for record shelves and we didn't like what we found. So we built some. That first design would become our first product: The Wall Cube. People started to want them, and off we went. But we wanted to do more. To make a range of high-quality options with clean design that are easy to install and fun to use. Because pieces like that help to bring joy to the home.
The place to sleep. To eat. To work, maybe (or especially). But there should always be space for joy in the home. To slow down, breathe, and smile. Alone, with loved ones. We prize things that facilitate joy. From turntables to shelves to plants to instruments. They help turn a house into a home.
Clutter is bad for your health. Or it can stress you out at least. The Scandinavians figured out that spare decor with clean lines, natural colors- gives your brain less to fixate on. It invites peace of mind without feeling cold. We believe in being deliberate when choosing what surrounds you.
“But they’re just things!” It’s true. But things can be messages you send to yourself. Lighting that hand-poured candle says it’s time to relax. Brushing your fingers over the worn cover of a favorite book evokes the feeling of where you were and who you were when you first read it. Pulling a record from its sleeve, dusting it, and dropping the needle reminds you that music is something you love. They are just things, but things can carry feelings. And we believe those things should have beautiful homes themselves. Homes that are functional, built-to-last, and beautiful in their own right. That’s how we make our shelves. And we make them for your favorite things.
Simple is undervalued. From the start, we built simple into every aspect of what we make. Simple to understand, simple to get, simple to install, and simple to use. But don't confuse simple with boring. Or cheap. Or "meh". We've found the easiest way to achieve true simplicity is through quality. Better materials. Harder processes. Nicer details. The result is pieces that score low on hassle and high on style and appearance.
But without waiting forever and paying one-off prices. Our pieces are built by skilled human hands. They are delivered ready-to-install with minimal DIY skills. No human interaction required (unless you want some interaction, we’re always up for a chat).
DEEP CUT: A (deep) opening or incision in something made from a sharp-edged tool
We make stuff out of wood. And we cut that wood often and in a lot of ways. This one is pretty self-explanatory.
DEEP CUT: A track (or "cut" in a record) that occurs late within an album, often making them obscure
We started this out of a love for records. For new popular records. For old forgotten records. For all kinds of genres. The joy of discovery is unmatched, so we love to find out about the deep cuts. It's all part of the fun. It's a lot of it, actually.
DEEP CUT: Reference to an obscure or less accessible artwork, opinion, movie, TV show, or similar
We like obscure stuff. From early viral internet videos, to forgotten 90's (and before) movies, to music, to TV shows that most people have never and will never hear of.
